"The classroom work was a hell of a lot of information at first but when broken down and spread out it was easy to memorize. When it came to yard skills I looked at another person do them and thought, how the hell am I going to do that? When Gary explained to me how to do the back offset and parallel I thought I wouldn't be able to get it down. Well with enough practice I got it down and passed my tests on the first try! I am ready to hit the road and see the country thanks to these guys!"

Testing and Graduates
I just wanted to say that the staff here at Spirit CDL is so very proud of our students. I want to thank them for some really awesome days down at the DMV. When our students go down and ALL pass it's an awesome day and we've been blessed with quite a few of those days. Thank you students for being the best of the best!
We thought we would answer some questions on contract training and explain our stance since there is a lot of truck driving schools popping up with contracts to sign.
DOES SPIRIT CDL OFFER FREE TRAINING?
Yes, Spirit CDL offers free training via the WIOA grant. Students are eligible based on household income and/or employment situation. The grants are available through local unemployment offices in Illinois and local job centers in Wisconsin. You are not required to pay back the grant and you do not have to sign any contract with any company to be eligible for the training.
DOES SPIRIT CDL OFFER CONTRACT TRAINING THROUGH AN AFFILIATED TRUCKING COMPANY?
No, no, and no. If you're signing a contract to "stay" with a company it's pretty obvious that the pay, the dispatch, the benefits and/or the treatment at the company is not sufficient. If a company has to create legal documents to make you STAY it's a sign that what you're getting into is pretty much, um, well, it's not a company where people enjoy working.
DO YOU TELL YOUR STUDENTS TO STAY AT THE SAME COMPANY FOR A YEAR?
Yes, we do indeed encourage students to stay with the same company for at least a year but it's an easy sell since some of our students have been working at their initial choice for several years now. We take a lot of pride in knowing our students not only stay with the company of their choosing longer than other school graduates but that MOST of our students are still in the trucking industry two, three, even four years later. Maybe our students have a little more endurance than others or maybe it's the fact that the companies we offer are better, we're not sure.
DO YOU OFFER THE SAME COMPANIES AS OTHER SCHOOLS?
Yes and no. We do offer some of the same companies as other schools but we have also banned some of their affiliated trucking companies from our school. We also offer trucking companies that will not hire from other schools, only Spirit CDL Students for them; no we don't have a contract with them, they just know what we put out.
Well, hope that clears our stance on truck driving contracts. Basically, we offer companies great students that actually want to work for those companies and we offer our students great companies that our students actually enjoy working for; it's just that simple.
Trucks are for Girls
At one time women were scarce in the trucking world but times are changing; more women are realizing this is a good job where they can make as much money as their male counterparts. Women no longer stay at home and wait for their trucking husbands to stop in, now they hit the road sharing the responsibility and wages.
